I was at Waterloo for computer science from 1996 to 2001. We started out in Pascal, moved up to C, then Modula-3 to teach us object oriented techniques (thanks fellas, that's a handy language to have on the ol' resume), then c++ for pretty much the rest of the university career - except for μ++, a multi-threaded version of c++ that one of our profs created for us to learn multi-threading techniques. When I graduated in 2001, first years were using Java. I was very annoyed that they got to start out with such a cool language, at the time, while I was stuck starting out with useless Pascal.

I can't believe that Apple is still using Objective-C. I had a co-op job back in 99/'00 using objective-c in windows (openstep, which later became webobjects after Apple bought it). I guess it's an ok language, it just seemed so bizarre. The fact that its origins lie back in the Next Cube days is pretty awesome though. :)
