@John Bowman: In answer to your questions and continuity nerdity:

1. Since we don't know

2. It's quite likely you could replicate gasoline in the 23rd century.

3. Two possible explanations that aren't necessarily mutually exclusive:
a) Perhaps it's an automatic.
b) Seeing as this is a slightly different Star Trek, this might just be a slightly different continuity. For starters, I've read that Abrams & Co. changed the details about how he beat the Koybayashi Maru test.

Does it make sense for young Kirk to drive a centuries-old gasoline-powered land vehicle off a cliff? Wouldn't that be like burning Gutenberg Bibles just for kicks?

Do they even refine gasoline in the 23rd century?

And I don't mean to get all continuity-nerd on you, but Spock had to explain to Kirk what a clutch was on the Chicago-mobster planet.

Are you as excited as I am? It looks so awesome. It will be good to see when Tiberius and Spock met though it seems Spock is a lot more emotional in this movie than he is in the original series, at least it seemed so from the trailer.

Did you see the pictures of the Enterprise since its humble beginnings?
