Joey: Comparing this to the I'm a Mac/PC ad isn't an apt comparison, since those are obviously a farcical work of fiction, whereas the Microsoft ad purports to be "real-life".

I'm just nitpicking though-- I agree with you that it doesn't matter if she's a professional actress. Everybody buys computers.

On a similar, but unrelated note... someone in the Toronto LiveJournal community was asking to buy anyone's used copy of "The Secret" as she "needed a new source of positivity in her life."

I immediately offered her $25 or her choice of three books that would make her life better, if she would just promise not to read "The Secret." In fact, I made it an open offer to anyone in the community that would promise not to waste their lives reading "The Secret."

The books I offered were:

* The Dip by Seth Godin
* The 4-Hour Workweek by Tim Ferriss
* Influence by Robert Cialdini

I never heard from her, or anyone else. Conclusion: people on LiveJournal enjoy lying to themselves.

I will agree with the premise that Microsoft seems to have made an ad for people who were going to buy a PC anyway. Comparing apples with apples.

However it seems more like an ad for HP than it does Microsoft though.
