I’m masking up at the Tech Meetup Extravaganza, and you might want to as well

I’m looking forward to Tampa Bay’s tech community holiday party, the 2nd Annual Tech Meetup Extravaganza, which takes place this Wednesday, December 14 from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. at Embarc Collective.

It’s organized by Computer Coach, sponsored by High Tech Connect, and it’s a meetup of Tampa Bay tech meetups, including the ones Anitra and I organize: Coders, Creatives, and Craft Beer and Think Like a Coder.

To attend the event, you need to bring either an unwrapped gift or make a minimum $10 cash donation for the local toy drive. Register for the event here!

I’m going to mask up at this event. Yes, I’ll have to pop it off to have a drink or have some of the snacks they’ll be serving, but I’ll be masked most of the time.

I’m doing this based on suggestions from public health officials, who’ve been talking about indoor masking, as a “tripledemic” of three highly contagious respiratory viruses — COVID-19, RSV, and the good ol’ flu — is starting to make the rounds as holiday gatherings and travel increase.

You shouldn’t feel weird about masking up when many people around you choose not to. I don’t — but mind you, I’m often seen walking around with an accordion — but if you want to mask up and feel weird about doing so, come find me at the party and we’ll hang out together.
